Members of the Mill Bay/Malahat Historical Society, supported by members of Malahat Legion Branch 134 and the Old Cemeteries Society, have placed white crosses beside veterans’ graves at five South Cowichan cemeteries: Shawnigan Public Cemetery, Mill Bay Methodist/United beside our museum, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery, St. Andrew’s Cowichan Station, and Dougan. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the placements were done without public gatherings and without the traditional assistance of cadets, but all veterans were saluted by Legion members. The crosses will remain standing through November so that members of the public can visit and pay their respects to those who served so that we could be safe.
